We welcome each child and their family providing a caring, friendly, safe and stimulating environment. We work to build positive relationships between ourselves, the children and the parents and carers to build a real sense of belonging. We recognise that this is the first significant relationship a child builds outside the family home and therefore make this a priority in our nursery. Our aim in nursery is to provide the opportunity for every child to reach their full potential. We aim to inspire:

  • curious learners with a thirst for knowledge
  • independent learners
  • happy and secure learners
  • children who can talk with confidence and interact well
  • children who are confident and enjoy with a positive attitude to learning

Welcome to Mrs Whittakers Conker Class!

At Middlethorpe Primary most children in Reception have attended our nursery, however we also welcome children from other settings including independent nurseries and childminders. We know our children well and feel privileged to be able to guide and nurture them, along with their parents and carers. We provide a high quality EYFS education giving children a secure and confident start to their full-time school life. We are committed to nurturing a lifelong love of learning alongside the aims of the EYFS statutory framework. We strive for high standards, consider the development of the whole child and seek to foster Kindness, Responsibility and Pride within our EYFS classroom - our whole school values which are at the heart of Middlethorpe Primary Academy!

A day in Reception!

The children will be welcomed at the door by Miss Whittaker at 8:45. We encourage the children to take off and hang up their coats and bags independently before joining their peers in the classroom for registration and morning activities which during the first term usually begins with name writing. Learning starts right away as soon as the door closes at 8:55, so please ensure your child is on time to give them the best start to their school day . Children have a 1 hour lunch break where they can enjoy a range of wholesome school meals, or bring their own packed lunch. A healthy lunch time meal supports children’s learning success for the rest of the day - if you decide to send your child with a packed lunch. Throughout each day your child will receive a careful balance of direct teaching, small group work and child-initiated play. Please find relevant timetables and newsletters for each term to see what we will be getting up to!

We use the class Dojo System to remain in constant contact with parents and carers. You can keep track of your child's rewards which are linked to our school values Kindness, Responsibility and Pride as well as being able to see what they have been learning about in the classroom. We will also send important information and homework on the class story. You can make a learning journey for your child and input their learning experiences from home too on their individual portfolio.

Visits to our Early Years Setting are welcomed. Please contact the school office via telephone on 01472 69189 or office@middelthorpeprimary.co.uk

Thank you for your support,
The Foundation Stage Team!
