Our Year 3 class is called Dandelion Class – named after inspiration from the beautiful book, The Lost Words by Robert Macfarlane. You can find our class poem from the book in our school entrance.
Curriculum Learning
In Dandelion Class, we are learning about lots of exciting times in the past. We love learning about the Stone Age, Bronze Age and the Iron Age. Later in the year we find the Ancient Egyptians fascinating, full of treasures and intrigue – always reported by our parents as a popular topic. Our Geography curriculum is also full of interest as we learn about volcanoes and the beautiful Italy. From Hindus in RE to Georgia O’Keeffe in Art, we have something for everyone and so much exciting learning.
Reading at Home – reading is a key that unlocks many doors!
Please continue to share the love of books with your child. Encourage them to read/share books at least 5 times per week. This can be recorded in their Reading Record. Reads will be tallied and certificates awards for 25, 50, 100 and more reads. Reading should be a delightful experience and we encourage you to revisit and re-read favourite books and stories.
Times Tables
Children will benefit from practising their times tables as much as possible. They can do this on TT Rockstars, which is a fun app that aids recall of facts. Times tables tasks will be sent home in the children’s learning books to be completed during half term.
PE
Please ensure that children bring the correct full outdoor/indoor PE kit. Long hair should be tied back please and children should have no earrings in for PE due to health and safety. Please label ALL uniform and PE kit items.
Homework in Year 3
Each week the children will be set homework.
- Each half term home-learning will be assigned in connection to the main topic (History, Geography, Religious Education, Art, Design and Technology) or Science recall activity. Knowledge Organisers will be provided to aid the completion of the learning challenges.
- Please aim to read five times a week. This really helps children to practise their reading skills. Reading Plus APP or Lexia APP (depending on which APP the children have been assigned) should also be read.
- Children all have a TT Rock Stars account. This game style platform encourages children to learn to recall times tables in a fun way. We would love it if children can practise at home whenever they have a little spare time.
