Curriculum Learning
Each week, children will bring home their home learning book. This will have a half termly menu with plenty of choice of learning tasks. These will range from creative tasks such as design your own propaganda poster or creating your own Blitz artwork, to discussion tasks e.g. tell your parents 5 things that you have learnt about the beginning of World War 2. In addition to this, feel free to undertake your own ideas.
Core Subject Homework
Throughout each term, children will also receive a range of core subject homework which will help support and prepare them for their up-and-coming SATS tests. This will be a range of maths, reading and SPAG activities which will link to the learning we have done in class.
Children will benefit from practising times tables on TT Rockstars, a great, fun APP that aids recall of facts.
Reading at Home
Supporting reading by hearing your child read 5 times a week is invaluable. Practising reading is crucial to becoming a fluent reader. A few pages is ample or a whole book. We ask that children read a range of the following: school, levelled reading books, Reading Plus/Lexia (children know which one they are on) and their own choice of book/magazine/guidebook etc. These can all be recorded in the child’s reading record. Certificates will be awarded at 25, 50, 75 reads and above. When 100 or 200 reads are reached, in addition to a certificate, children will receive a token for RORY. RORY, our reading vending machine, is full of great books that the children can choose from when they insert their token.
PE
Please ensure that children bring the correct full outdoor/indoor PE kit. Long hair should be tied back please and children should have no earrings in for PE due to health and safety. Please LABEL ALL uniform and PE kit items.
Homework in Year 6
Each week the children will be set homework.
- Each half term home-learning will be assigned in connection to the main topic (History, Geography, Religious Education, Art, Design and Technology) or Science recall activity. Knowledge Organisers will be provided to aid the completion of the learning challenges.
- Core subject home learning will be set weekly.
- Please aim to read five times a week. his really helps children to practise their reading skills. Reading Plus APP or Lexia APP (depending on which APP the children have been assigned).
- Children all have a TT Rock Stars account. This game-style platform encourages children to learn to recall times tables in a fun way. We would love it if children can practise at home whenever they have a little spare time.
